Richard Olson
I was born and raised in Hastings MN, went to the colleges in the St. Cloud area, studying Music, Theater and Fine Arts, later got an Associate degree as an entry point for my passion work, Design. I worked in Architecture Offices until my clients’ demands required I start my own business to service their ever increasing needs. In 1985 I established EnvironDesign in Minneapolis and later Orono, as an interdisciplinary umbrella under which I still collaborate with other professionals. In 1994, Minnesota began certifying Interior Designers, after an extensive application process, I was awarded this honor on the first day.
Having spent much of my career creating award winning environments and fixture systems for major and boutique retailers, I now devote most of my time to the design of custom homes and furnishings, retail, gallery, office and hospitality spaces, and project management.
I spent my whole life coming to the North Shore, Cook County mostly as I had a family who was invested here and enjoyed all the offerings for outdoor sport and pleasure. I fell in love with the planet, here. I couldn’t stay away, so I moved here full time in 1996 (and never looked back).
I have been directly involved in over sixty built projects (including three homes of my own) in Cook County.
